The Descobrir (Discover) Program was implemented in 2000 to promote body movement activities for children from the ages of 2 to 6, in three daycares located in the Jaguaré shanty towns, in São Paulo. It was the result of a partnership between Morungaba and Colégio Santa Cruz and its Congregation.
During its three years of operation, the Program went through changes in purpose due to evaluations made with the daycare and preschool staff of Santa Cruz. In addition to actions with the children, the Discover Program offered relaxation, body language, and reflection exercises with the Helpers in Early Childhood Development.
Through the use of public areas, such as Villa Lobos Park, Clarice Lispector Library for Children and Youth, and Álvaro Guerra Library for Children and Youth, accessibility and integration issues were worked on with child residents of the shanty towns and preschool students from Santa Cruz.
In order to carry out this program, Morungaba was supported by volunteers and made internship agreements with the following institutions:
– São Paulo USP Medical School (USP)/ Occupational Therapy Course, through the Art and Body Study and Research Lab in Occupational Therapy of the Department of Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy, and Occupational Therapy.
– Unesp – Licenciatura Plena (Teaching Degree) on Arts Education
– Colégio Santa Cruz– The subject of Ethics and Citizenship in the 11th Grade.
