Mother + Child = New Story Program

A partnership between Morungaba and the Associação Beneficente Santa Fé – Casa Vovó Ilza,
Macedo Soares and the collaboration of volunteers Marta de Lima Gaia, Tâmara Medina, Isabela Valent, Julia Santos, Silvia Lopes, and the special participation of Silvia Cruz, enabled the Mother + Child = New Story Project, which worked with adolescent mothers between the ages of 13 and 18, to strengthen the mother-child bond through recognizing the needs of the children as well as their own.
Cultural workshops about dance, art, music, storytelling, photography, and writing, were an instrument for the teenagers, who had a childhood with few opportunities, contact with drugs, and high-risk situation on the streets, to gain self-confidence and citizenship.
The Program, between the second semester of 2003 and December of 2005, was maintained with the participation of Renata Carimbó, Adriana Mello, Maria Ângela Santana, Vivian Kass, and Silvia Machado.
