Libraries for Children and Youth

Maria Duschenes (1922-2014) coordinated the Dance/Art of Movement program, carried out at São Paulo Libraries by the Department of Libraries for Children and Youth of the Municipal Department of Culture (1984-1994). The basic themes of the educational dance project were the body and the effort a person makes in order to move, discovering the space around them, and communication and relationship with the environment and other people. To enable this project, the São Paulo Municipal Department of Culture hired Daraína (Tuca) Pregnolato and Renata Macedo Soares, and relies on the support of many of Ms. Duschenes’s students.
